Book Donations to the Annapolis Valley Regional Libraries

One of the ways in which Valley Gardeners Club has supported gardening activities in the Cornwallis-Valley Region is through an annual donation of $250.00 to the Annapolis Valley Regional Library (AVRL) for the purchase of books related to gardening. The first donations were made in 1987 at a cost of $126.11. While the AVRL does the actual purchasing to take advantage of the discounts offered to libraries, the Club recommends the titles. In recent years Club member Nancy Chipman has taken suggestions from Club members and made recommendations to the library.

Early purchases included a complete set of Taylor’s Guides – 10 volumes which covered all the broad categories of plants plus a volume on garden design. The complete list of books donated includes volumes on all aspects of gardening, landscaping, flower arranging and gardening books for children. These, are a valuable resource for gardeners throughout the region.

Special thanks to Wendy Trimper at Branch Headquarters for her assistance

Donations include those suggested by Club members and the library, as well as books which have received good reviews or which looked particularly interesting. The aim is to promote interest in gardening in adults and children, through books that are a pleasure to read, and to look through. Input from members is welcomed.

Your local library will obtain any of these titles for loan, or they may be ordered online, from the Annapolis Valley Regional Library, for pickup at your nearest library.
